Torque Actuator Testing System installed at Eskom Lethabo:

This testing system is used to test and calibrate torque actuators up to 5000Nm. A single person can operate this highly compact and mobile system via a user friendly graphic PC interface. The exerted torque and electrical current drawn is measured intime and can be plotted as graphs. The maximum electrical current drawn, the torque value and electrical current at torque limit switch activation and functionality of travel limit switches are recorded and is printed on test certificate. Input fields for torque actuator model number, serial number, testing person and setting parameters exist and is printed on the certificate. The software program can be adapted to suit customer requirements.

A special feature of this system is the ability to switch between a normal and reversed polarity. Actuators wired 'forward' and 'backward' does not have to be altered when tested - the test is simply adapted by the press of a single icon and afterwards the torque actuator is replaced in its original location with the wiring untouched. Shaft adapters make provision for different shaft sizes and can be custom made for special shaft sizes. System safety features include E-stop, mechanical contactor interlocking and PLC software interlocks.
